Practice 9: Independent Practice
It is important that the material that students practiced during guided and collaborative practice is the same during independent practice (Rosenshine, 2012). The content should not be different. If students are not meeting approximately 80% success level, we can support learning through student-led learning goals. Learning goals assist in providing students a learning challenge and must be fostered in a positive environment. Students must be involved in a learning culture that allows them to learn from their mistakes and helps them understand that new learning occurs from making mistakes.
