Welcome to the final Strand, Stages of Practice. Based on Rosenshine’s observational research, the most effective teachers give more time for guided practice (Sherrington, 2019).  Strand 4 contains three Practices, including:

Practice #5: Guide student practice

Practice #7: Obtain a high success rate

Practice #9: Independent practice

Within this section, we will address the following learning intentions…

  • Participants will understand how important practice is to the instructional delivery model.
  • Teachers will learn how practice can move information from students short term to long term memory.
  • Participants will come to value and prioritize using formative assessment data to ensure high success rates in student learning.
  • Teachers will consider shifting self-reflection and goal setting into the students’ hands.
